After completing his specialist physician training at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, completing a Masters degree of Medicine (MMed) , he started his time as an advanced trainee in Medical Oncology. Dual trained in haematology and medical oncology Dr Kukard was certified in 2004 in Medical Oncology with The Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. He worked both in private practice and at the Pretoria Academic Hospital at the University of Pretoria.
Dr Craig Kukard relocated to Australia in 2009 and has been working at Gosford Public Hospital since his arrival. He became a Fellow of the The Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2010.
Since November 2013 Dr Kukard has been the Acting Head of Department of Medical Oncology at the Central Coast Cancer Centre, Gosford Hospital.
In 2014 he started in private practice at Gosford Private hospital. Dr Kukard has a keen interest in clinical research and has been involved in clinical trials since 1996 both as a co-investigator and principle investigator. His main interest areas include urogenital, lung, head and neck, neuroendocrine and breast cancers.
